Too much like story writing
— Any school report I received

I’m not one for the academic way, never have been. When searching through old report cards and lesson comments, this was all too familiar and consistent with any academic writing exercises given.

It seems like I’ve always been a story teller, a creator of worlds in my head. Not to mention the obsession with Merlin, the BBC series, and Doctor Who. To which I wrote many an episode including my own character.

Growing up I lived in the world of fairies with ‘The Rainbow Fairy Series by Daisy Meadows’. This was what every penny of my pocket money was spent on—worth every penny as a kid.

Then one year, world book day came along and I got a free book called ‘Scarlett by Cathy Cassidy’. This book changed my life in the figurative sense, opening my imagination to such detail and beautiful landscapes. My love for reading growing with my age.

Over time, school and life took over. Reading less, stressing more. I got a Bachelor of Honours degree in Photography at Portsmouth University—not that I’ve used it much since. Although not all bad because I met my husband on our first day (He’s now my resident spell checker and chief tea maker).

Otherwise, my writing passions that got me to this point, came from a wonderful redundancy from a job in 2023. Between my other jobs as a self employed Wedding Invitations Designer and making Bridal Veils based in Elgin, Scotland. I found that even that apparently wasn’t enough on my plate, on top of raising two young children, so I decided to write my first book. Somehow completing it in just two months!

Writing feels like my purpose, as cheesy as that sounds. But when writing the first book, creating a whole world and ecosystem of creatures and plants in my head. I filled the dopamine gap I was missing, quickly turning into a whole universe that created a prequal idea which is in it’s early stages (Fated Red - Working Title).

With that, the current first book came with ideas for a whole series, and a sequel book which is currently still just in the idea phase. To round it all off, I would love to create an encyclopaedia of all of the creatures and flora I’ve created, which is still an idea currently, but one I definitely want to come to fruition.

And yes, yes I have ADHD. Can you tell?!

Funny enough, the encyclopaedia book was the first idea before the actual book I wrote. The idea came to me whilst working at the tills in my local B&Q a few years back, and was formed from my obsession of plant books from RHS or Kew.

Not that I can keep a plant alive to safe my life. So I am left with wooden décor mushrooms and Lego plants instead.

Other than that. That is me and my journey to aspiring Author.

I hope you all enjoy watching my journey, as much as I am travelling through it.
